Dr. Esther Mombo, a lay Anglican theologian from Kenya, has been invited by Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University to be a guest professor for this term. She is a Henry R. Luce International Scholar and former deputy vice chancellor of academic affairs at St. Paul’s University in Limuru, Kenya. The invitation was the result of a professional connection Dr. Ed Waggoner and the Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner made at Yale Divinity School, a relationship that deepened when they visited Kenya in the summer of 2012.
She will speak on “Old Issues and New challenges: The Search for a Balanced and Life Affirming Church in East Africa” at 7 pm Thursday, March 27 in the Bass Conference Center at Brite. A reception will follow.
“She is a professor at an ecumenical university in Kenya and a great friend of the Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth. I do hope that folks in the Diocese will take this opportunity to come and hear her public lecture. She’s an amazing person and a shining light in the Anglican Communion,” said Janet Waggoner.
Mombo was one of the people interviewed in the documentary “Voices of Witness Africa” produced by Katie Sherrod and Cynthia Black for the 2008 Lambeth Conference.
